2024 Zip Buy Now/Pay Later 250 Odds: Gibbs, Allmendinger Lead (2024)

NASCAR Xfinity Series Heads to Sonoma Raceway

Rookie Shane van Gisbergen took his first Xfinity Series victory in Portland last week. The three-time Australian Supercars champion passed leader Justin Allgaier with four laps to go to secure his second NASCAR win and first in this series. This week, the Xfinity Series has another road course race at Sonoma Raceway. The 2024 Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 250 Odds have van Gisbergen near the top again but not as the favorite for victory.

2024 Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 250 Odds: Favorites

  • Ty Gibbs (+240)

Gibbs is back in the Xfinity Series this weekend for just the third time this season. He leads these NASCAR odds thanks to his strong road course track record. Last season he finished third in Austin, fourth in Sonoma, won on the Indianapolis Road Course, took pole, and led the most laps in Watkins Glen. In 2022, he won the Xfinity Series race at Road America.

He’s on a run of strong results in the Cup Series so he has the momentum for a good finish here.

  • A.J. Allmendinger (+300)

As usual, Allmendinger is one of the favorites at a road course given his open-wheel and sportscar racing background. He’s never won a NASCAR race at Sonoma but he’s come close, including second in this event last season. He finished fourth last time out in Portland and led the most laps en route to 10th in Austin. He’ll likely be near the front again.

  • Shane van Gisbergen (+300)

van Gisbergen’s late charge around Allgaier secured his victory to become the second rookie to win this season after Jesse Love’s win in Talladega. His road course prowess and experience are key in races like this. Sonoma and Portland demand different things from drivers but van Gisbergen has the experience to race well. Back-to-back wins may be a big ask considering the Cup Series drivers in the event this week but he should be in for another good result.

  • Sam Mayer (+900)

Mayer spun out in the first turn thanks to contact from van Gisbergen after taking pole position for the race. That broke a stretch of three consecutive top-four finishes. He’s a strong threat to win this weekend. Last year he finished 10th at this event but won NASCAR races in Road America and Watkins Glen. He could use a bounce-back result here.

2024 Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 250 Odds: Sleepers

  • Cole Custer (+1000)

The championship leader finished sixth in Portland to keep pace at the top of the Xfinity Series standings. He now holds an 18-point lead over Austin Hill and Chandler Smith. He’s still yet to win a race this season and is relying on his consistency instead. Custer’s great track record at road courses gives confidence for backing him in NASCAR betting.

He won in Portland and the Chicago street course last year and finished sixth in this event. Earlier this year he took fourth in Austin. Eventually, the defending champion needs to bank a win because his future is in doubt with Stewart-Haas Racing shutting down after 2024. There’s a strong chance that a win could come this weekend.

  • Parker Kligerman (+1800)

Kligerman rebounded from his worst result of the year in Charlotte (37th) to finish eighth in Portland. He’s now in the top 10 of the standings with five top-10 results in 2024. Last year, Kligerman was the best Xfinity Series regular in this event and finished fifth behind four Cup Series drivers. This year, his best result came in Austin where he finished fifth and won Stage 1. It’s a long shot but he could be a surprise winner this weekend.

  • Sammy Smith (+5000)

Smith’s putting together his best run of results in 2024 with back-to-back third-place finishes in Charlotte and Portland, two very different tracks. Last year he finished ninth at this event, sixth in Chicago, and fourth in Austin as a rookie. That’s enough to start a good track record in road course events. He could be a big surprise come race day and at least notch another top-five result.

2024 Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 250 Odds: Predictions

Sonoma marks the third of six non-oval events on the Xfinity Series calendar. The next non-oval event comes on July 6 with The Loop 110 on the Chicago Street Course circuit. This weekend’s race should be another close battle like in Portland.

Of the favorites, we like Allmendinger (+300) to break his winless run in Sonoma. It’s the closest event to a home race for the San Jose-area native. Of the sleepers, we like Smith (+5000) to surprise with a top result. Our top five picks are Allmendinger (-225), Smith (+750), Mayer (+150), Gibbs (-300), and van Gisbergen (-225).
