Elementary District Dual Language & ESL Instructional Specialist @ Instruction Department (Internal employees must use the internal link to login & apply.)

Primary PurposeTo facilitate, support, model and coach teachers and campuses in meeting the needs of their Emergent Bilingual populations within Bilingual/Dual Language and ESL programming
Education/Certification Qualifications:
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
- Bilingual certified in Spanish bilingual education
- T-TESS – Proficient
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong background in Bi-literacy, Spanish grammar instruction and second language acquisition
- Knowledge and experience with planning and implementation of the Dual Language Pillars, Spanish Language Arts TEKS, Cross Linguistic Connections, PVR
- Knowledge & experience leading ESL Compliance requirements, reporting and LPAC
- Trained in SIOP (3 day training), Reading Academy, ELPS and TELPAS
- Experience with Effective Schools Framework
- Excellent Human Relations Skillset
- Ability to communicate effectively with bilingual parents and students
- Flexible and able to adjust schedule (may include evenings and Saturdays)
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of teaching experience with Emergent Bilingual students (K-6)
- Campus ESL Specialist and/or Reading Specialist of Bilingual campus (ILT member)
- TWDL/OWDL Teaching experience (grades 2-6) preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Program Management
- Coach classroom teachers in the use of effective research based instructional strategies and methodologies; Collect data and progress monitor across grades and contents
- Assist/mentor new teachers with the planning and development of Dual Language program and instruction.
- Provide demonstration lessons, assistance and resources for campus personnel to meet the varied learning needs of EB students.
- Assist teachers in the development of effective lesson plans and appropriate grading practices.
- Serve as a resource to campuses on appropriate placement EB students.
- Assist campus staff and teachers in appropriately assessing the needs of EB students.
- Serve as a resource for instructional specialists and content coordinators to integrate bi-literacy, differentiated instruction, sheltered instruction, and language development strategies.
- Meet on a regular basis with campus and district personnel to analyze data and monitor program effectiveness.
- Serve as liaison between the campus and the district to ensure that the needs of the EB students are addressed in all program areas and that the district Dual Language program and policies are being implemented consistently across the district.
- Develop and present Bi-literacy staff development sessions at the campus and district levels.
- Develop Dual Language curriculum, assessments, and supplemental materials to support EB instruction.
- Research and stay abreast of current research and trends in Dual Language and second language acquisition.
- Conduct a minimum of 4 SIOP classroom walk-throughs per week to debrief with and coach teachers towards continuous improvement.
- Conduct a minimum of 4 DL classroom walk-throughs per week to debrief with and coach teachers towards continuous improvement.
- Provide guidance to STAAR grade DL teachers and specialists during weekly DL planning and Long Range Planning

- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. (Microsoft Office, Cognos, e-School Plus, SchoolCity, Cambium and Schoology)
- Implement alternative methods of instruction and interventions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsTools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide or in-state travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
