Cris here. I absolutely love garden green beans and I love cooking them all day in my slow cooker. Mikey made you a video of this deliciously simple recipe.

This recipe is so easy and perfect for cooking up a big batch of green beans for a potluck or as a delicious side dish for a weeknight dinner. The bacon, onion and broth along with the cooked down beans create an amazing dish that will take you back to grandma’s kitchen table. In my opinion, these slow cooker green beans take comfort food to a whole new level.

Notes on Cooking Fresh Green Beans

  • We use co*cktail onions and bacon bits to make this a dump and go recipe. You can fry up regular bacon and crumble and slice up a yellow onion instead if you would prefer.
  • You will need a large slow cooker 6 qt or larger to hold all your beans.
  • If you are using fresh beans from the garden you will want to wash and trim your beans beforehand. If you cannot get your hands on some fresh beans from the garden, you can oftentimes find them at the grocery store in the produce aisle.

I haven’t tried this without the bacon, but you might tried turkey or beef smoked sausage. If you give it a try, let me know how it turns out!

Can you cook this on a low setting? If so how many hours would you recommend?
For a noon meal setting the crock pot on high would mean getting up at 2am to start it. Can I cook it longer and set it low the day before?

      Hi Albert-
I’ve got some good news! If you click on the blue “8” in the “servings” section of the recipe card, it lets you adjust the servings. You will need to use a smaller slow cooker than listed in the recipe if you reduce the servings, but it should allow you to be able to adjust most of our recipes to your needs. Hope that helps!
